Literature Text

“Alright, we’ll split up into teams of two. Ruffnut and Tuffnut, you search the village. Aster, you head with Snotlout and search the forest. Fishlegs, you’re with me; we’ll head to the shore, and search the caves around that area.” Six teens stood in a circle, faces grim, even the ones that always held cheer, jest, or some form of positive expression. All ears fell on Hiccup for once, though he wasn’t happy. None of them were.

“Meet back here before midnight--” Hiccup was rendered unable to finish his sentence, but off in the middle of it by an outraged snarl, “Before midnight?! Are you nutz? [Name] is out there all alone, and you plan on just leaving her there all night?!” Incredulous, Aster advanced towards the shorter boy, lips curled back in fury, arms gesturing wildly. Hiccup frowned at the other boy’s sudden outburst.

“Like I was going to say, we can’t risk any more of us getting lost out there, and it won’t do [Name] any good if someone ends up hurt.” It was common knowledge around here that the island was dangerous at night, even with their alliance with the dragons. Other creatures still romed, hunting for any prey that they could find. That did not exclude young Vikings, no matter how angry they were. Seeing the look on Aster’s face, Hiccup reaffirmed.

“We will all meet back here at midnight; that’s in three hours. That’s final.” With that unquestionable order, Hiccup turned and walked over to his dragon, hopping up on his back. With a sharp yell, an unspoken command, Toothless turned his back, and was up in the air in an instant. Fishlegs followed on Meatlug silently, risking one glance at the silently fuming Aster before taking off after Hiccup.

The twins were the next to leave, shoving eachother a few times before mounting their respective sides of Barf and Belch, and taking to the sky to patrol the village from above; as if they hadn’t all looked there already. That left Aster and Snotlout, the last two to leave.

“Just you and me then, I guess.” He said simple, already perched atop Hookfang’s neck. Without responding Aster mounted Stormfly, his trusty Nadder, and took off as fast the dragon would carry him.

 “H-hey! Wait for me!”

[Timeskip]

It had been over an hour, and there had still been no sign of you. After scoping out the place from above, using the fire of Hookfang’s flame-coated body to guide them, the two had lowered deeper into the layers of brush, now avoiding branches and leaves as they flew. Aster had scolded Snotlout sharply, needing some way to take out his anxiety, snapping at him to stop Hookfang from flaming, accusing him of trying to burn the whole forest down. All had been silent after that, eight searching eyes straining for any sign of the lost Viking girl. No words were exchanged between the two searching teens, that was, until the uncomfortable Snotlout had to speak up.

“Man I’m exhausted. I can’t believe she actually managed to get herself lost. Odin’s beard.” He exclaimed, half-joking, “women, huh?”

That did not go over well with Aster.

“Shut up! She’s smarter than you any day. There’s no way she would just get herself so completely lost without some kind of reason behind it! The only one stupid enough to manage a feat such as that would be you. Even Ruff and Tuff could manage better.” Aster spit, words acidic and more biting than the chilling wind that nipped at both of their faces. Already stressed, added to the weight  of audacity strong enough to insult you made a vile combination in Aster’s stomach, and he couldn’t stop it from bubbling to the surface.

“Alright, alright, chill! I know you like her and all, and I’ll admit she’s pretty hot, but you don’t have to get so--”

“Shut up!” Aster growled, large hands clenching the reins that held to Stormfly, aiding in Aster’s attempts to steer the dragon.

“Alright, alright! Relax! Sorry.” Snotlout’s tone, though he spoke in surrender, clearly showed that he thought Aster’s reaction was quite the exaggeration, only irritated the blonde more, however he simply kept silent. The two, both irritated now, kept silent for a long time, closely examining the underbrush and trees as they flew by at a slowed pace.

“I think it’s almost midnight. We should probably head back soon.” Snotlout finally piped up again, more cautious this time.

“You go. I’m going to keep looking.” Aster refused to give up. He’d look all night if he had to; he wasn’t going to give up until he found you.  If it was dangerous out here for him, it was for you too, especially if you were injured.

“But you heard Hiccup. We have to go back!” Snotlout argued, clearly surprised by Aster’s decision; usually he was the one to break Hiccup’s stupid rules, and Aster followed him like some sort of… follower, or something.

“I told you, I’m staying.” Though sharp, Aster didn’t sound so angry this time. His words were definitely final though, blue eyes still glued to the inky darkness of the forest floor.

“Whatever man, I’m not going to get yelled at by Hiccup! C’mon Hookfang.” Snotlout said briskly, simply leaving his fellow Viking in the dust, turning around and heading back towards the village. Aster simply scoffed; he would probably do much better on his own anyway, without that fool distracting him.

[Timeskip]

Quite some time had passed, though Aster couldn’t be bothered to tell exactly how much; maybe an hour. He’d need to hurry up though, or he feared Hiccup’d soon send a search party after him, even just out of spite.

Unable to spot anything from the skies Aster had resorted to looking on foot. Slower, and considerable more dangerous, yes, but it was worth it if it would help him find you. Still, he kept vigilant as he walked, doing his utmost to keep quiet. He was doing very well in this endeavor, until a dark twig, hidden in the cover of rotting leaves alluded him, snapping the silence in half with a crack that seemed defining as a heavy foot fell upon it.

Aster at first cringed from the sound, but instantly perked up as he heard a sharp, but quiet gasp.  His eyes went from double their normal size to half of it in just a second as Aster narrowed his blue-hued optics. What was that? Again, Aster raised his food and stepped down on the twig, earning another snap. This time no sound followed. Had it been his imagination?

Not willing to give up quite yet, Aster slowly leaned down, picking up one of the broken pieces of wood between the leaves that covered it, though he was careful not to make any sudden movements. After a second of stillness, pausing to see if he’d disturbed some creature that would now attempt to strike him down, Aster moved again, raising the small portion of twig above his head, daring to throw it in the direction he’s thought he’d heard the gasp from before. This time he did get a reaction.

“W-who’s there?” Though they tried to sound unafraid, the voice was weak, smaller than he’d ever heard it. Still, it was unmistakable.

“[Name!]” Aster’s eyes shot open. For a second he got no response; then, a meek,

“Aster?” Aster shot off towards your voice without a second’s hesitation, stumbling through brambles and weeds, pushing them out of his way and jumping carelessly over fallen trees. It wasn’t long before he reached a very small clearing, seconds really. It took him even less time to spot you.

You laid face down on the grass, head lifted as much as you could manage to look at him. It looked as if a portion of the ground had given way beneath you.

“[Name]…” Aster sped over to you, slipping to his knees as he reached you and taking your face carefully in two large hands, looking you over urgently, “Are you alright? What happened? Are you ok?” He battered you with questions as he looked you over.

“Aster… Aster.” It took him a few moments to calm down and actually listen to him, however once you had his attention you placed one of your paled, shaky hands on his wrist, “I’m fine.” He didn’t believe that, and you certainly did not look at all fine. You filthy from the dirt you’d likely had to spend all day in, and dried blood scabbed over the otherwise smooth skin of your face from where twigs had scraped your skin, and a large bruise had formed on your chin, presumably from where you’d hit the ground. Worst of all though, was your ankle. Your ankle had fallen in the hole; pressured by twigs and a log that had rested in waiting under the surface, your ankle had bent the wrong way.

“I was worried sick.” Aster admitted, frowning. You had no idea if it was your sudden torrent of guilt, relief of being found, or stress from the day, but at that you began to tear up. This surprised both of you, and though you felt rather stupid, you allowed your voice to waver.

“I’m sorry.” Aster was shocked too, unsure what to say. He just stared at you for a few moments before seeming to snap into action, like a doll who had needed it’s key rewound.

“Hey, it’s alright. Ah, don’t cry. I’m not mad. I’m glad you’re safe.” Aster tried to comfort you, brushing a lock of dirty, [h/c] hair away from your eyes. You eyes locked with his, and you simply stopped for a few moments, lost in each other. The two of you allowed a few quiet moments to pass before Aster pulled back again.

“I’m going to get you out of here now, alright?” Having calmed down again, you nodded. Aster returned the gesture before standing upright again, blue eyes looking you up from top to bottom, examining your predicament. He wanted to get you free of this mess with as little pain as possible. After a few minutes of pondering, Aster leaned down and grabbed you, beginning to pull. Every so often he’d move to your ankle and move twigs or dirt out of the way. The road to freedom was a long one, earning many hisses, squeaks, and cries of pain from you along the way, all for which you apologized, earning a mixture of  reassurances and apologies from Aster as well. Finally though, he got you free.

You laid on your back now, breathing hard, resisting the pain of your throbbing ankle. After it subsided a bit, you spoke up again.

“I’m so sorry for this Aster…” The blonde simply shook his head, smiling at you, though you noticed that the smile seemed a little sad.

“It’s alright.” After a few moments, letting you recover a little more from your recent struggle, he leaned down. He stroked your hair once, running a hand through the tangled locks, before carefully sliding one arm under your back, the other under your knees, and lifting you up slowly, not wanting to hurt you any further.

“Come on.” Aster said gently, “Let’s get you out of here.”
HTTYD = How to Train Your Dragon
Aster = Male!Astrid (I don't know if he has a name already, but that just seemed to fit... ^^; )
Ha! HA HA HA! TAKE THAT LIFE! I'M PRODUCTIVE! The Seriously Evil Laugh

*cough cough* Anyway, I finished this now. Did it today. Yup.

This time I made the canon chicky a boy, rather than reader~ All the other characters genders have remained the same.

I think I did really well on this, though it is pretty cheesy, so much so that it made me cringe once or twice. Gave me a toothache. Still, I hope you like the fluffy goodness~

Thanks for reading~
